Married to her handsome husband for 51 years, she is blessed with six wonderful daughters: Mary, Ruth (in heaven), Martha, Jane, Sarah, and Rebecca--and nine perfect grandchildren. Her husband, James R. (Jim Bob) Paxton, is an attorney, former state representative and former member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. Jim Bob and Doris Paxton own the buiding at 1000 N. Church St. where they have separate offices. Other Tenants include another attorney, Black Creek Drilling, a Hospice which will move in March 1, 2006, and an oil and gas investor.
Doris has had two careers: 21 years as a homemaker and 30 years in real estate, 24 of those years as the broker/owner of her business. Having lived in Palestine for all those 51 years, she is well acquainted with the city and county and the people.
Doris has the ABR designation, Accredited Buyers Representative, awarded by REBAC of the National Association of Realtors. More and more Buyers are wanting representation and agency is extremely important. Formerly all agents represented the Seller as either agent or sub-agent. Today, this is changing. Doris wants to be up-to-date on this important issue.
This training also makes her a better listing agent, as she is aware of the wants and needs of Buyers and is better able to put Buyer and the Seller's property together.
Doris is an approved realtor to sell HUD properties and VA properties.
She also sells Rural Development homes. Because of its population, Palestine is considered rural by the United States Department of Agriculture, and homes are made available to qualified persons with no down payment, low interest, with the possibilty of rolling the closing costs into the loan and government subsidy.
She lists and sells homes, farms, and commercial properties.
She has been a member of the board of the Palestine Association of Realtors for 24 years and was on the board when the MLS (multiple listing service) was established.
